According to the American Psychological Association “Sexual orientation refers to an enduring pattern of emotional, romantic and/or sexual attractions to men, women or both sexes. Sexual orientation also refers to a person's sense of identity based on those attractions, related behaviors and membership in a community of others who share those attractions.”

So, in an easy way to understand this, "sexual orientation" means the capability to love of a human being to another one. This does not have relation with any other social, physical or psychological capabilities that a human being may have, although nowadays this is not understood by all people and it has become a reason for discrimination in our society.

We are normed in a heterosexual society and unfortunately this means that not being a heterosexual is a reason for being discriminated in almost everything. Interactions with others and even looking for a job are situations that are complicated for not-heterosexual people.

We can compare this situation with the one that lived the black people in the 60’s when they had to fight against a white people society just because laws and prejudices of the population were sort of biased and responded to an irrational hatred and belief of power over them.

It’s disappointing to know that even if our society has evolved it has not stopped on making mistakes such as discriminating people or communities based on stupid factors such as racial matters and sexual orientation. This only slows our progress as humanity because we insist on falling in old mistakes instead of unite us as an inclusive society.

Elizabeth and his length crossed to come to the throne.

When the King Enrique married Ana Bolena, she already had months of gestation, hoping that he was a male, but when Elizabeth was born the monarch suffered a terrible disappointment. The Maori Tribe : Respect and Tradition

The Maori is a tribe located in the northeast of New Zeland's North Island. Due to the centuries of isolation, the Maori community has created a whole new community, with a characteristic art, language, and obviusly, an unique mythology.

One of the most important aspects of the Maori mythology, is the role that whales played on their culture. For them, the whales are a significant part of their culture. This because in the past, they use to get materials and food from them. Also, whales were considered as guardians for the Maori when they goes to canoe journeys.

The whales use to be called "Ika Moana" which means "Fish of the sea", later this name changed depending in the kind of whale and in the different tribes, which have different names for whales too.

Even when many aspects of the Maori people have changed since the European arrival in the 18th century, its amazing how many traditional aspects have lived. One of these aspects are their traditional dances, which are danced nowdays. One example of this is the New Zeland rugby team, who always before every game, dance the traditional dance of the Maori tribe.


The Maori people refuses to be separated from their roots, we can clearly see this when we know that the Maori language has revived, thanks to the Kohanga Reo, where preschool childrens learn to speak Maori, incluiding the native language since the first years. Also, the beliefs of the Maori culture are very respected, maybe if the same attitude would be taken here in Chile, we could be more culturally rich, living in peace with those who were here before all of us.

Racism Nowadays

            We can’t say that  because the black people have the same civil rights that white the racism is over, there is still people who think that black people are inferior or bad people.

          The African Americans have a really negative stereotype, and the problem is that so many white people take this like a truth, they see them like thieves, violent and uneducated people. And I think that the worst thing is that some policemen believes those stereotypes and sometimes they arrest some black people without any real proof just because they suspects based on a negative stereotype. So that’s because that funny phrase “it’s because I’m Black?” is not so funny when just being black is the reason of being arrested.

           

          Maybe black people sometimes act violently and some of them show hate to the white people but that’s not because their colour, is because they are upset of discrimination and I know that violence is not the way of resolving the problems but we must understand their reaction. 

         Some TV shows, make fun about racism and the people enjoy it because it is a satire but there are so many TV series, and movies that shows negative stereotypes of black people and that is worst the news shows black people more than white people doing bad things. 

          Well we just must not forget that the discrimination against the black people is not the only one, there are so many ethnics who are discriminated and there are people who are discriminated for any reason. The issue is that at less in the United States the racism against black people is more than against other ethnics.Black people don’t ask for more civil rights than white people, they don’t ask for a special good treatment they just want equality they just want don’t be discriminated.

          

          

Elizabeth I and the influence of Anne Boleyn

The relationship between Queen Elizabeth I of England and her mother is not an extremely well known topic. As most people might know, Elizabeth’s mother, Anne Boleyn, was executed when Elizabeth was very young (she was only  two years and 8 months old). However, many people believe that Anne had a quite important influence in her daughter.

Some people say that the Virgin Queen never mentioned her mother; some others believe that she talked about her mother twice. Whereas she did or she didn’t, it is well known that Elizabeth wore a locket ring with a miniature of Anne Boleyn along with one of Elizabeth herself until her death.

  As the common saying goes, “actions speak louder than words.” Although she didn’t talk about her mother as much as a proud daughter would (perhaps it was something dangerous to do, considering the circumstances in which her mother died), she did have the image of Anne with her, so she probably had some love for her mother –This is a speculation, though.

Some people claim that, although she wanted a son to please the king, Anne Boleyn loved her daughter Elizabeth. Some says that she visited her when she had the chance and that she enjoyed the little time.  Anne also made sure that her daughter was always treated well, was surrounded by trustful relatives of her and that she had got many gifts and the finest clothes.

Besides the love that Anne had for her, Elizabeth inherited many things from her mother. Not only her eyes and physical features, but her charisma and intelligence also.  Some people think that Anne Boleyn could have been a great queen, but she used her intelligence for her own ambitions. Elizabeth, in the other hand, used her intelligence and qualities to lead England to a golden age.

Anne Boleyn’s life and story also could have been an important part of Elizabeth’s life. Her bad choices and unfortunate decisions may have been crucial for Elizabeth choices and an important influence for the way she lived her life as the Virgin Queen.  Truth be told, Elizabeth was what she was for many reasons, but certainly, Anne Boleyn was an important part of it.

The Inuits, commonly called “eskimos”, are a native tribe that lives in the north of Canada. To the contrary of what most people think, the term “eskimos” is a derogatory term, because in their language (Inuktitut) eskimo means “someone who eats raw flesh” so they preffer to be called “inuit”, that is the correct term to refer to them.

When somebody mention the inuits, it’s normal to imagine a quite short person bundled up in big coats, with dark hair and a tan skin. But this is not true at all, because there are a lot of inuits that are actually blonde, the image that inuits have to the world is not more than a stereotype .

Another interesting fact about the inuits, is that in their native country, they are very respected. The opposite happens in countries like United States or even here in Chile, where the native’s opinion is not very respected. To the contrary, in Canada is really important for their government. This can be seen when some enterprises wants to build on Inuit territory. In this case, the Inuits are who have the last word, because they are asked if they allow the enterprise to build and if they answer no, the enterprise must accept that resolution. But on the contrary, if the answer is yes, the enterprise can build but some of the profits must be given to the inuits.

Also, they live as the rest of the country and not in special territories like what happens with the native people in United States, what in my opinion, maybe is one of the many reasons of why Canada has the image of a friendly country, because to be friendly with the foreigners you must be friendly with your own people first.

Saint George

            On April 23 England celebrate their patron saint who is St. George, but it calls my attention because a mythical  history about this character and because he is not from England, in fact, he don’t even visit it in his life, but he influences a lot on this country.

            

           St. George was a roman soldier who fought on the crusaders, in there he made a reputation which go through countries and years. He was imprisonment by the emperor Diocletian who lead the roman’s persecution of Christians. Georges keeps their faith even when he was tortured, and this was an inspiration for the people.

            

          When crusaders arrive to England from foreign places they spread the stories about St. George, so he became too popular in the XIV and XV centuries that the England’s soldiers slowly start to wearing he’s symbols like the red cross in a white background and the red rose which are the national England symbols. Also the England flag is the red cross of St. Georges.

        But what really surprised me was that the most known history about St. George is this: There was a dragon living in the town of Silene on Libya and every day the people gave two sheep him for feeding, one day wasn’t any sheep for him so they decide to sacrifice a child of the town by a lottery and the princes was chosen, but when the dragon was ready to eat her St. George appears and hurt him, then he told to the people that he’ll kill the dragon if they turn into Christians so they accepted and he kill the dragon.

            St. George’s Day is not so popular nowadays, but it still a commemoration day and some people wants to give more importance to this day.
